Ottawa Bound
It's risky business, tempting the hockey gods this time of year.
Still, the Ottawa Senators, certain they're headed for sports glory, have commisioned
Edmonton-based Windship International to create a Stanley Cup replica the can showcase
during home games, all the better to whip fans into a playoff frenzy.
The company has manufactured thousands of cold-air inflatables over its 24-year history,
for customers ranging "from mom-and-pop operations to Fortune 500 companies" anxious to
advertise their services, says Cory Gauvreau, Windship's Marketing Manager.
Ever discreet, the company won't disclose the dollar figure attached to the giant
inflatable, which is set to make its debut during the Sens' home game.
They did show it off for a few hours here, though, inflating it to its full glory at
56th Avenue and Gateway Boulevard, much to the delight of curious passersby and
motorists.
The fabric behemoth was fashioned at the company's local plant over a two-week period
and will be shipped to Ontario today.
"It's NHL-approved" says Gauvreau of the inflatable's design. "The team wanted it to
boost fan spirit and team spirit."
